The craze over mushroom coffee or mushroom tea may be leading some of us into more health issues such as kidney stones. Some of us might have a kidney stone growing and not even know it yet and this is why it is important to be proactive in your health. Then there are those people who get kidney stones all the time but have other health conditions they are hoping the Chaga mushrooms will act as a miracle food.

Unfortunately for those prone to kidney stones, Chaga mushrooms are high in oxalate found growing on the side of those beautiful birch trees. This oxalate can bind easily to calcium once it reaches the kidneys. Calcium oxalate is the most common kidney stone.

While many extremely healthy foods contain oxalate, some of us need to be careful and need to know about the downside to these foods. With food, a variety is beneficial and too much of one thing can be harmful.

If you find yourself wanting to hop on the Chaga mushroom trend and might be prone to kidney stones, here are two ways you can counteract the oxalate effects in your body:

  1. Consume foods with calcium while consuming Chaga mushrooms to bind the oxalate BEFORE getting to the kidneys.
  2. Drink Lemon water to bind excess calcium in your body preventing calcium attaching to oxalate

You see, there are two different methods to prevent the harmful effects of too much oxalate in your body when consuming Chaga mushrooms regularly depending on your preference. BOTH options aid in prevention of kidney stones.

You can try both methods depending on if you’re in the mood for cheese or lemon water. Just remember, too much of a good thing can lead to a separate issue.
