Vaccination is the first thought for many for preventative measures talking about the Flu.  There are mixed views on vaccinations, even so, the Flu vaccine is not much help for the population greatly affected by the Flu causing death.  The American Academy of Allergy Asthma & Immunology suggests the Flu vaccine may not be effective for those immunocompromised.  Children under the age of 6 months are not able to get the Flu shot.

The best prevention methods during Flu season is to:

  • wash hands
  • stay away from individuals you know are sick
  • eat nutritious foods
  • live a healthy lifestyle to increase the immune system

Evaluating your health is the first step.  Those who already have a disease are more susceptible to severe reactions associated with the Flu virus.  For example, the CDC states individuals with diabetes (type I or type II) are at higher risk of serious flu-related complications than individuals that don’t have diabetes.
